Germany provides 31.3 Million Euro for hospitals in North Afghanistan

Dr. Suraya Dalil and the KfW development bank signed a contract for the funding of 31.3 Millionen Euro (around 43.2 Millionen USD) for construction and refurbishment work at hospitals and helath centers in the north east provinces of Afghanistan (Kunduz, Takhar, Badakhshan und Baghlan).
Through this contribution the German foreign exchange office doubled their donation spendings that were so far used for health projects in Afghanistan.
Program activities will comprise the construction, rehabilitation and expansion of existing facilities over a period of approximately 3 years. The program will cover hospitals and health centers including Kunduz Regional Hospital, Taluqan provincial hospital, Keshem district hospital, Baharak district hospital, district hospital of Pul-e-Khumri, Wardooj Comprehensive Health Center, and Galabator Basic Health Center.
At the signing ceremony, Her Excellency, Dr. Suraya Dalil, Minister of Public Health, stated this contribution is a remarkable input toward making the health care delivery accessible, efficient especially in those provinces. We thank the Government; people of Germany for this assistance. His Excellency Ambassador Rüdiger Koenig underlined the importance of health projects for improving the daily life of Afghan citizens and stated that the seven hospitals and clinics will be the visible proof of the long standing, strong friendship between the people of Afghanistan and Germany.
Together with other German support activities in the health sector, such as the rehabilitation of the Provincial Hospital of Balkh in Mazar-e Sharif, Feyzabad provincial hospital in Badakhshan and basic health projects throughout the Northeastern provinces of Afghanistan, the new program is to be seen as an essential contribution to improved living conditions for thousands of people in the Northern region of Afghanistan.
